A US court has heard that the man accused of attacking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer also wanted to target other public figures, including actor Tom Hanks.

A police officer who interviewed defendant David Debab told the hearing that President Joe Biden's son Hunter and California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, were also on the suspect's "hit list.  

Debby faces six charges, including attempted murder, in the October 28 incident. Last month, the man pleaded not guilty to all charges. At the end of Wednesday's hearing, which lasted nearly four hours, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Stephen Murphy dominated that there has been sufficient proof to continue with the trial. 

The officers testified about how they responded to the attack on Paul Pelosi, 82, at the family's home in California.
